Sodium percarbonate (SPC, sodium carbonate peroxyhydrate, CAS 15630-89-4) is a solid, white, granular oxidising bleach that breaks down into soda ash and hydrogen peroxide when dissolved in water. The grade supplied by KORKİMYA contains 12.5-13.5% active oxygen and is most often used for bleaching and stain removal in detergent powders and automatic dishwasher detergents, for textile and paper bleaching, and as an oxidising disinfectant in industrial cleaning.

What is sodium percarbonate?

Sodium percarbonate is a solid compound formed from sodium carbonate (soda ash) and hydrogen peroxide in a 2:3 ratio, which is why it is also called sodium carbonate peroxyhydrate. On contact with water it decomposes into hydrogen peroxide and soda ash, and the released active oxygen does the actual bleaching and oxidising work. It is a convenient, easy-to-handle source of active oxygen for powder formulations, without the transport and storage difficulties of liquid hydrogen peroxide.

Most of the product's commercial value comes from its active oxygen content. In the KORKİMYA grade the active oxygen content is in the 12.5-13.5% range, the mean particle size is in the 600-900 μm band, and the moisture content is at most 0.8%. These figures determine both the bleaching power and the flow and shelf stability of the product in powder formulations.

What is sodium percarbonate used for?

The industrial use of SPC rests on a single function: releasing active oxygen in a controlled way. That property makes it a versatile bleach in both household/industrial cleaning and process bleaching chemistry. Key applications include:

In powder detergents, SPC releases hydrogen peroxide when it dissolves in the wash water, oxidising organic stains and lightening color. Its granular, free-flowing form suits dry-blend detergent production, while the low moisture content limits early decomposition during storage. When the active oxygen content is consistent batch to batch, the bleaching performance of the finished product stays predictable, which is why supply verified by a certificate of analysis (CoA) matters.

Selection, storage and safety notes

• Evaluate supply by active oxygen content: bleaching power depends directly on this value.
• A low-moisture product (at most 0.8%) is more stable in storage and flows better in powder formulations.
• Choose between the big bag (1000 kg) and the 25 kg bag according to consumption volume and feeding method.
• Store away from water, alkalis, heavy-metal salts, reducing agents and organic materials, in a cool, ventilated, enclosed warehouse at no more than 35 degrees C.
