Inhibited hydrochloric acid (CAS 7647-01-0) is an aqueous HCl solution with an added corrosion inhibitor; depending on grade it contains 22-32% HCl by mass. It is used for acid stimulation (matrix acidising) of oil and natural gas wells; chemical cleaning of inorganic deposits from boilers, heat exchangers and industrial equipment; acid pickling of ferrous and non-ferrous metals; carbonate dissolution; and surface preparation before galvanising.
