Technical sodium hydroxide (CAS 1310-73-2, NaOH), also known as caustic soda, is a strong inorganic base; a colourless or coloured liquid containing a minimum of 46% NaOH. It is used in the chemical, petrochemical, pulp and paper industries, non-ferrous metallurgy and mineral fertilizer production; in vegetable oil and fatty acid production; in soaps, perfumery and cosmetics; in textiles; and for etching and degreasing metal surfaces.
